If you are deciding between eyebrow threading and waxing, you are not alone — it is one of the most common questions we hear at our Sydney salon. Both remove unwanted hair and both can give you tidy brows, but they work very differently. Here is an honest comparison to help you choose.
How each method works
Threading uses a twisted cotton thread that a specialist rolls across the skin to lift hairs directly from the follicle, row by row. Nothing but thread touches your skin.
Waxing applies warm (or cold) wax to the area, which is then pulled away with a strip, taking the hair with it.
Precision
Threading wins on precision. Because we remove hair in fine lines, we can shape a brow with a great deal of control — perfect for defining a clean arch or tidying just a few stray hairs. Wax removes hair in wider sections, which is efficient but gives less fine control around the delicate brow shape.
Comfort and skin sensitivity
Threading does not pull at the skin the way wax can. There is no hot wax, no adhesive and no stripping of the skin’s surface. That makes threading a popular choice for:
- Sensitive or reactive skin
- Anyone using retinol, acids or other active skincare
- Skin that reddens or lifts easily with waxing
Both methods involve a brief sensation as the hair is removed. Most clients describe threading as a quick, light scratch that fades within seconds.
How long results last
Both threading and waxing remove hair from the root, so results typically last two to four weeks depending on your natural growth cycle. With regular threading, many people find regrowth becomes finer and sparser over time.
